Mirco Engineering Research Lab (MERL) at Usman Institute of Technology (UIT) is paving the way to make Pakistan's first indigenous processor. MERL - UIT also represented Pakistan for the very first time in RISC-V SUMMIT. RISC-V is a movement which has garnered a lot of momentum and passion. As such, it is very well suited for MERL-UIT research, which is growing and building the research and development of semiconductor technologies in Pakistan by training undergraduate and graduate students in the various areas of micro-electronics. For this purpose, MERL-UIT invests in developing IC design skills with local universities and enabling this infrastructure in cloud which will allow building an IC design and development platform. MERL has developed a core team of researchers focused on the development of new core architecture based on RISC-V ISA for AI and machine learning.
